The success of SPH Kundalila is rooted in the experience of its team, argues managing director Jeremy Petter-Bowyer, which adds up to an incredible 278 years of service among the executive committee alone.
“If you combine the company’s experience from Level 14 – in other words, from branch managers and above – this number exceeds 400 years of combined service to the sector,” says Petter-Bowyer.
This will be SPH Kundalila’s 53rd year in business, having been founded in Saldanha Bay in 1969. Among the longest serving members of staff is the current chair, Una Adonis, who began in a junior position 45 years ago.
Having earned first a matric and later a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Adonis went on to become the company’s accountant before she took on the role of chair.
“Our years of experience is a key indicator of our expertise in a range of work including crushing, screening, loading, hauling, rehabilitation and plant hire,” he says. “Due to South Africa’s large dumps of gold waste rock, we even became the world’s leading screener to gold waste rock dumps – screening up to a million tonnes a month.”
Also moving into opencast mining, SPH Kundalila’s experience broadened but its commitment to a quality service has always remained. This is clearly visible in the long relationships that it has established with many of the big names in the mining sector, including a number that have been ongoing for four decades and more.
